Wales Coast Path Walking Festival For all rail enthusiasts, this four mile walk includes a trip on the world famous Ffestiniog Railway narrow gauge line to Penrhyn top station. We will follow lanes and paths to the iconic Portmeirion Italianate village and a visit to Boston Lodge engineering works, the oldest railway workshop in the world. The route continues down the hill along paths to Boston Lodge Works where you will have the rare opportunity to have a guided tour of the fascinating workshops that used to manufacture armaments for the war effort, but are now the centre of the manufacturing of all the narrow gauge railway engines, carriages and anything to do with Ffestiniog Railway. We will Return to the Ganolfan across the Cob that Madog built to develop Porthmadog out of the Glaslyn estuary. Cost: £10 + booking fee which will include the train ride and visit to Boston Lodge Works -not to be missed. Distance: 4.3 miles Walking ability: Easy – Although there are some steep paths, the walk is suitable for anyone with a basic level of fitness and no mobility issues. Comfortable shoes or trainers can be worn.
